Legislative Day
On May 22, 2024, MCA welcomed over 100 individuals from many of its member agencies to the Michigan State Capitol, for its annual Legislative Day. Executive Directors, Board members, and various staff members participated in a variety of educational programming, as well as activities celebrating clients and volunteers of agencies from across the state. Additionally, MCA honored Representatives Carol Glanville and Amos O'Neal as its 2024 Legislators of the Year. Highlights of the day were remarks from several other key elected officials, and a special keynote address from Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The Governor used her remarks to draw special attention to the 60th anniversary of President Lyndon Baines Johnson's founding of the community action movement; the date coincided exactly with his famed commencement speech at the University of Michigan, in which he coined the phrase "Great Society." Beyond programmatic components, visits were paid to dozens of members of the state Legislature, in order to advance common priorities of MCA's members. The day was a great success, and already planning has begun to make the 2025 Legislative Day an even bigger and better event.
